FROM THE EDITOR December 2009

I’m starting to put this issue together on one of those unpredictable early summer days. Pouring with rain one moment, bright sunshine the next.
November brought searing heat, forcing the cancellation of several of the Threatened Species plant searches, and drying off the grass at a scary rate, but finished with some good rain events. With the result that the bush is looking quite stunningly beautiful. And so aromatic.
This issue once again has quite a bit of reading matter for your lazy holiday period.
As you’ll read elsewhere, our contact ranger Sylvia has moved to the Otways, and we’ll really miss her. She has been a great support for FOGG and also for the Threatened Species Group. Husband Frank acts as our secretary and web master and assures us that he can still do most of this from a distance.
Other farewells are in order to Peter Foster who has moved up to the Murray parks. Peter helped with the renaissance of the Red Gum Walk.
Finally we note with regret the retirement of John Harris. John was the chief ranger here before Graham, and then moved on to take charge of all the small reserves scattered around the area. He has been unwell for some time and we wish him and Kaye a satisfying and peaceful retirement.
