Our plans are as follows:
  •  10 am meet at Lake Wartook carpark.
  • We will consolidate cars, and proceed along the Mt Difficult Road to the junction with Carters track. We are in discussions with Parks about whether we can have access to the track to shorten the hike to the top of the range.
  • Depending on inclination and fitness, we may split into two groups…one will be easier, more of a ramble looking at flowers, fungi, and so on, perhaps going partway along Carters Track and then exploring the now overgrown long point fireline track.
  • The other group will hike to the crest of the range, then head SW bushbashing to the “lost” or “hidden” Lake. Part of the days activity will involve sampling for invertebrates in rock pools (gnammas) and the lost lake.
  • We will then retrace our steps to our starting point.
  • Again subject to discussions with Parks, we are hoping for permission to access the Long Point Fireline track where it is being upgraded to service a new hikers camp on the Peaks Trail. If this is granted, it may be possible to ascend Mt Difficult as well.
You will need hiking footwear, wet weather gear, lunch and a happy attitude
Hope to see you there,
